Global Internship Program

Overview

Gain professional and international experience through a virtual internship. Students will build skills for success in today’s digital workforce in a globally connected work environment.

Students will gain unique and highly valued professional competencies such as adaptability, problem solving in diverse environments, and multicultural collaboration.  The internship will offer real-world professional experience at a non-US based company where students will be assigned real professional responsibilities.The internships are available in one of 80+ countries around the world with companies in 18 different career fields.


The Global Internship program combines a 14-week unpaid internship with career coaching, academic reflection, assignments, and assessment.Ìý The integration of work and learning through a global perspective will allow students to earn degree credit through , and complete an Experiential Learning requirement.Ìý

º£½ÇÉçÇø offers this opportunity in collaboration with . Interested students will complete a to determine eligibility.Ìý Then, follow the on-boarding steps with Virtual Internships which includes a video introduction and screening questionnaire used to match students with the appropriate employer.Ìý  All students will be enrolled in BGEN-47300 course with the approval of the College of Business Internship Coordinator.  

F-1 Visa students: This opportunity will require prior work authorization (CPT). Please talk to your ISS Advisor for more information about CPT.

Within the application form, you will select one career field, and several geographic locations of interest.Ìý Employer hosts are located in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Central and South America, and the Middle East and North Africa.

Fields include: Business Administration, Fashion and Design, Environment and Sustainability, Entrepreneurship and Startups, Finance, Wellness and Sports Management, Healthcare and Pharmaceutical, Hospitality Tourism and Events, Human Resources, International Development, Legal, Supply Chain, Marketing, Media and Communications


Application and Selection Process

Interested students will first apply for eligibility with º£½ÇÉçÇø, through the Office of Study Abroad.Ìý When eligibility requirements have been met, students will then be invited by Virtual Internships to an application portal where you will upload an introduction video and complete a short questionnaire.Ìý  After you submit your video and questionnaire to Virtual Internships, they will begin matching you to a host company.Ìý 


Experiential Learning component: BGEN-47300 International Business Internship

Eligible students who are successfully matched with a company have the opportunity to earn credit towards the Experiential Learning requirement.Ìý All students participating in the Global Internship program must obtain approval from the Internship Coordinator and successful enroll in BGEN-47300.Ìý Internships will include hands-on direct experience with real world projects, and will also incorporate academic coursework and assessment for degree credit.Ìý

Eligibility:  Junior or Senior undergraduate student, with a declared major in any College of Business program, and approval from the Internship Coordinator

How does the Global Internship work?
The Global Internship program will give students a unique and immersive international experience without physically traveling abroad.  Lewis University has partnered with Virtual Internships (VI) as the internship placement provider.Ìý VI will match students with an international based company, where students will work remotely to complete real-world professional projects in their field of choice.Ìý

What is an “internship placement provider”?
Virtual Internships (VI) is a partner of º£½ÇÉçÇø that specializes in internship placements for students.Ìý VI will collect students’ initial screening questionnaire, and place students at an internship providing company.Ìý Students then work directly with the company to complete their learning experience.Ìý

How much does the internship cost?Ìý
There is no associated cost to students for participating in the internship.Ìý Internships are only available during the Fall and Spring semesters, and enrollment within the BGEN 47300 course will need to be within the credit limit to access normal “block tuition” rates.

What is the application deadline?
Interested students should apply as soon as possible.Ìý Placing students at an international company can take up to 6 weeks in order to find the best fit for both employer and student.Ìý So, we recommend that interested students apply at least 2 months prior to the start of the Fall or Spring semesters

How do I register for my internship class?Ìý
You are not able to register for the internship course yourself.Ìý The Internship Coordinator and College of Business will register you in the course after you have been placed with a company
