Romeoville Community

Lewis University is fortunate to be located in the rapidly growing and dynamic community of Romeoville, Illinois.  Romeoville is a friendly village, where people still care about their neighbors.  It is a progressive community with excellent municipal services, rich in cultural heritage, with a spirit of cooperation and volunteerism.

The Village of Romeoville is located on the Des Plaines River in the southeastern corner of Lockport Township in the northeastern part of Will County and in the northeastern part of Illinois.  Romeoville was incorporated in 1895 and is a historic part of the I & M Canal System, which supplied Chicago with produce from our abundant farmlands and the settlers to the area with manufactured goods from the city.  Farms and quarries were the mainstay of Romeoville's economy from its founding in the 1830's to the early 1900s.  During the early part of the 1900s, Romeoville became a resort time for wealthy Chicago area residents who flocked to Ile a la Cache and Romeo Beach.  Today Romeoville boasts a large and diverse economy.

One of the reasons people flock to Romeoville is because residents have convenient access to shops that range from specialty boutiques to hardware stores, from large shopping centers with multitudes of stores, to small specialty shops.  There is an abundance of great restaurants in Romeoville featuring menus specializing in old fashioned fare, steaks and fresh seafood, and authentic German, Greek, Oriental, Mexican, Italian and other ethnic dishes.

Romeoville also has a wonderful selection of artistic events, entertainment, and year-round events, which include carnivals, dances, fireworks, parades, and a variety of art and craft shows.  Students enjoy visiting the Isle a la Cache Museum in Romeoville along he Illinois and Michigan Canal Historic Corridor.  Each June, Isle a la Cache is home to an Island Rendezvous celebration of area history that draws thousands of visitors.

Throughout the year, residents enjoy events including concerts at an outdoor amphitheatre, picnics, canoeing, hiking and biking on this 87 acre island.  Along with local entertainment, Romeoville residents are only minutes away from neighboring communities offering theatre productions, nightclubs, comedy clubs, and a variety of artistic events.  Similarly, the vast cultural and artistic events in the City of Chicago are also only a short distance by car or commuter train.

Romeoville has all the benefits of a large city including accessibility via highway, rail, water and air transportation, with the amenities of a small community.  For those students who plan to make frequent visits to their home country, Romeoville is located only 30 miles from the O'Hare International Airport and just 20 miles from Midway Airport.  Along with its use in the College's aviation program, the º£½ÇÉçÇø Airport functions as a thriving corporate airport.

Students can take advantage of daily METRA commuter trains for fast and convenient access to and from Chicago.  Train stations are available just minutes away in neighboring communities such as Joliet, Lockport, Lemont, Lisle, and Naperville.  Express train service is available during morning and evening and Amtrak train services throughout the US are also available just minutes away at the Joliet and Naperville train stations.

º£½ÇÉçÇø offers a beautiful park-like campus in a delightful community we are sure you will enjoy!
