Test Optional Applications

Lewis University has adopted a test-optional admission policy for incoming first-year for all our academic programs.  We acknowledge that test scores often do not portray the student’s full ability and potential for academic success. Test Optional applicants will not be required to submit standardized test scores from the ACT or SAT to gain admission or be considered for merit scholarships, but official scores will be requested before registering for registering for Lewis classes.  At that point, scores are collected and used for the purpose of course placement and/or institutional research.

TEST OPTIONAL FAQ

How do I know if I should apply test-optional?
In general, students who are satisfied with their test score and/or believe the score could strengthen their application are highly encouraged to submit official test reports. Students who do not feel their test score is an accurate reflection of their potential and would rather be reviewed primarily from their strong academic record may choose to apply test-optional.

What if my scores are sent from a testing agency or included on my transcripts?
If the student applies test-optional, submitted test scores will be ignored for admissions purposes.

How will Lewis evaluate students who do not submit test scores?
Our holistic review process will include an analysis of factors such as strength of courses, achievement in honors/AP courses, grade trends in subject areas, extracurricular activities, community involvement, and writing ability. Test optional applicants are required to submit a personal statement or graded school assignment as part of their application documents.

Will I be considered for scholarships if I apply test-optional?
All admitted students are automatically considered for merit scholarships, regardless of test score submission. However, it is important to share that all applicants are encouraged to submit test scores with their application documents, even if they choose to apply as test-optional.

Lewis Admissions will review an admitted student for merit scholarship based on GPA only and GPA/test score combined and award the higher of the two amounts. While the scores are removed from the application review process, they will be included in the scholarship review process and may positively impact the amount of scholarship offered.

Are there any students who cannot apply test-optional?
Students interested in the Early Acceptance Program with  must submit scores as part of the LECOM review, although they can still be considered for test-optional admission to Lewis.
