º£½ÇÉçÇø eats up Food for Thought Colloquium

The and the program are presenting “Food for Thought,” a multi-disciplinary series dedicated to the topic of food that will run from September 2011 to April 2012. The films and presentations will engage the community to consider topics, such as healthy eating, stress eating, overeating, vegetarianism, malnutrition and environmental issues related to food. Faculty from various º£½ÇÉçÇø departments will lead this interesting exploration of food. All events are free of charge.

Dr. Ewa Bacon, professor at º£½ÇÉçÇø, created this series as a way to focus on society’s interest in eating, food preparation, food purchasing, food diseases and food as pleasure. The faculty colloquium will examine how people have a personal, cultural, global and biological connection to food.

“Food is related to growth, to health, to illness, but it is also the source of community, the heart of the family, and joy,” said Bacon. The colloquium also serves as a way to increase interdisciplinary communication among faculty and support the Arts & Ideas Program.

The series is being sponsored by a grant from the . It is also supported by the º£½ÇÉçÇø History Center and the Arts & Ideas program, which received funding from Illinois Arts Council. For more information about the series, contact Dr. Ewa Bacon at baconew@lewisu.edu.
