Rome Studies Return for º£½ÇÉçÇø Students

Published: February 9, 2025.

º£½ÇÉçÇø students have returned to Lasallian Universities Center for Education in Rome. Almost half of the 21 students in the LUCE Rome Program for the Spring 2025 semester are first generation college students.

The students are studying and experiencing a cultural immersion as they live and study in the Generalate, the motherhouse of the global De La Salle Christian Brothers network headquartered in Rome, Italy. Also, the students are enjoying expanded course offerings from the College of Business and the Social Work programs.

Leveraging Rome's rich historical and cultural landscape, the program includes educational excursions to Florence, Naples, Barcelona, and other significant sites, transforming these cities into dynamic classrooms. The curriculum is designed to enrich students' academic and personal growth, featuring courses such as Italian Language, Italy Today, and Art Appreciation. These three-credit-hour courses fulfill general education requirements and are taught by local Italian faculty.

This year, Drs. Scott A. Kerth and Ellen Thursby are co-directing the program, overseeing academics and student services. Chris Swanson, director of Study Abroad, directs the program. Dr. Dennis Cremin, history professor and director of º£½ÇÉçÇø History Center, was in Rome for the first two weeks for orientation and is teaching a course in a blended format.
