Published: August 28, 2023.

The º£½ÇÉçÇø History Center and the Gaylord Building Historic Site are hosting a "Place and the Environment" symposium from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. on September 14. The event features speakers who illuminate the history of our shared landscape.

“This is part of a year-long series held along the 96 miles of the nation’s first National Heritage Area. These leaders can speak both about the past and current issues,” said Pam Owens, Gaylord Building Executive Director. She continued, “This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with people from around the area and investigate the themes of place and the environment.”

The speakers include Raphael Wahwassuck, Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Tribal Council, Christina Henderson, Prairie Supervisor, Midewin National Tallgrass, Dr. William C. Barnett, Professor of History, North Central College, and Ana B. Koval – President and CEO, Canal Corridor Association.

“I’m so excited for this event. I bring students to study nearby sites all the time. They are always surprised by the history found right in our backyard. I’m so excited to welcome the speakers and the community to this symposium that sheds light on our rich and diverse region,” said Dennis H. Cremin, Professor of History and Director of the º£½ÇÉçÇø History Center.

The event is free and open to the public at º£½ÇÉçÇø, St. Charles Borromeo Convocation Hall, 101 Airport Road Romeoville, Illinois 60446.
